Care Tips
Light
- Four hours of sunlight per day
- It can grow in indirect sunlight too,but color won’t be as vibrant
- You can place the pot near a window that gets a lot of light
Water
- Allow it to dry out before watering again since the plant is better off with too little water than too much
- Overwatering will cause the Hobbit Jade to rot at the base and perish
Soil
- Plant in well-drained soil with compost added, and include perlite for drainage
- A layer of pebbles and sand at the bottom will help with drainage and prevent rot from forming
Fertilization
- Since jade is a desert plant, fertilization once a year is plenty, and diluted liquid fertilizer is the best choice
- Don’t fertilize during the winter, though, since that’s a period of dormancy for the Hobbit Jade
Temperature
- They prefer less temperature
- Be careful not to allow the plants to stay too warm; otherwise, their growth tends to become stretched and soft
Propagation
- Propagate from cuttings
- Use both leaf cuttings and stems with complete rosettes can produce new plants but stems will produce faster results
- When using a stem cutting, wait for the cut surface dry for a few days
- Place the stem cutting in moist cactus soil and keep the plant out of direct sunlight
- After a few days, the cuttings will begin to take root
Pests and Disease
- A soil drench combined with a systemic insecticide solution and water is usually enough to get rid of them
- In case of any mealy bugs and scale insects, remove them with a toothpick
Suggested Uses
- Given their beautifully diverse appearance, these are great options for decorative houseplants
- Grow them indoors and in the greenhouse
- Over time, they can even grow to take on a bonsai-like appearance
